On March 21, 2016, Nichia Corporation filed a patent infringement lawsuit against a US-based LCD TV maker, Vizio in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. The lawsuit alleges that Vizio is infringing a patent (U.S. Patent No. 8,530,250) held by Nichia relating to LED packaging technology. The patent describes a light emitting device with a resin package, resin-molded body and lead frame. In the lawsuit, Nichia is seeking an injunction and damages for the alleged infringement.
