UK-based aircraft interior lighting company, STG Aerospace announced that Romania’s largest airline Blue Air and UK charter carrier Titan Airways installed their square-beam liTeMood® LED Reading Lights on their B737NG and B757 aircraft respectively. STG Aerospace says it has also secured EASA certification for both aircraft types.
The liTeMood® LED Reading Light, an APEX 2016 awards finalist in the ‘Best Passenger Comfort’ category, replaces the standard incandescent reading lights installed on B737NG and many B757 aircraft. The reading lights feature STG’s patented photometric technology. STG claims that the reading lights with a uniquely square light beam create a more relaxing, private space and provide a greater sense of personal control.
According to STG, this feeling of personal control results from the light’s square light beam instead of the conventional circular beam. The square-beam distributes light precisely and evenly across the tray table and seat. STG says that this even distribution, which eliminates hot spots, also improves visibility and reduces light spill to neighboring passengers.
Meanwhile, the high CRI (Color Rendering Index) and high R9 (the index for deep red color rendering) results in not only more readable text but also makes inflight meals appear more enticing and onboard merchandise more attractive for purchase. The light also dramatically reduces the glare on tray tables, eBooks, and tablets compared to traditional passenger aircraft reading lights.
Operational benefits of the LED-based aircraft reading lights include a dramatic improvement in reliability, by over ten times, and simple installation that allows complete aircraft outfitting in just a few hours. The thousands of passengers onboard Titan Airways and Blue Air aircraft benefit from the new reading experience that liTeMood® delivers, and STG has scheduled additional airline installations this year.
“At Titan Airways we strive to give all of our passengers a premium experience. Lighting is an important way we do this,” Alastair Wilson, director, Titan Airways, commented. “After retrofitting 757’s with liTeMood® mood lighting last year, the decision to upgrade our reading lighting was an obvious one. This simple, same-day installation will provide years of benefits to our VIP passengers all across the globe.”
Aurelian Bobei, CAMO Director, Blue Air, commented, “The operational benefits of this product were immediately visible to each of us, and can now guarantee a fully new, highly reliable reading light to our passengers on-board.”
Marcus Williams, Global Sales and Marketing Director for STG Aerospace added, “We all want increased privacy and comfort during our flights, and our new reading light will offer passengers with Blue Air and Titan new levels of this, as well as providing an enhanced reading and working environment.”
STG Aerospace will showcase the liTeMood® LED Reading Light at the Aircraft Interiors exhibition in Hamburg at stand 6A28.
