South Point Arena and Equestrian Center Gets New LED Centerhung Display from Daktronics

South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada USA, has installed a new Daktronics four-sided video display system for the Arena and Equestrian Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 240,000 square foot event venue features three climate-controlled arenas, a vet clinic, feed store, and more than 1,200 climate-controlled stalls.

The new, massive video displays replace the previous Daktronics centerhung technology that the Equestrian Center installed in 2006 and almost triples the size of the original Daktronics display. According to Daktronics, the 4-millimeter spacing gives the new screens among the tightest LED resolutions of any centerhung video display in any arena in the U.S. The 4600-seat Arena and Equestrian Center will suspend the enormous 13,797-pound display from the ceiling.

Arena and Equestrian Center Also Getting Two “Sideline” and Two “Endzone” Screens

The Equestrian Center is also installing two larger “sideline” screens that measure 12.5 feet high by 21.5 feet wide and two smaller “end zone” screens, which are 9.5 feet high by 14 feet wide. These four panels are comprised of 588 individual modules with a total of 2,718,912 pixels at three LEDs per pixel, totaling more than 8.1 million LEDs.

The new displays are each capable of variable content zoning, allowing each to show one large image or multiple windows of content.

“Michael Gaughan and South Point’s relationship with Daktronics began well before the property opened in December 2005,” said Steve Stallworth, South Point Arena and Equestrian Center general manager. “When Michael Gaughan first built the Orleans Arena he used Daktronics exclusively and purchased the first ‘ring beam’ LED fascia in Nevada at that time. When he opened the South Point, he purchased Daktronics screens for the Arena and his state-of-the-art tournament Bowling Plaza. Daktronics was the only company in the business that we trusted to provide us with the quality and experience we were looking to deliver to our guests.”

Since the installation of the Center’s first Daktronics display in 2005, South Point Arena and Equestrian Center has hosted some of the largest Western lifestyle events in the country, including the Indian National Finals Rodeo, the Professional Bull Riders’ Velocity Tour Finals, and the World Series of Team Roping. South Point will host over 40 weeks of equestrian events in 2018 along with other types of events including the World Archery Festival, USA Wrestling, collegiate basketball tournaments, the Mecum Motorcycle Auction, and more.
