RoHS Gets Exemption for Cadmium in Color-Converting LEDs

The European Commission recently approved an RoHS exemption for cadmium in color-converting LEDs, according to Allen Avery LLC.
The Commission Decision 2010/122/EU

of 25 February 2010 concluded that it is not yet technically practical to substitute a material for cadmium in certain LED applications. The commision therefore revised the RoHS Directive annex to include an exemption for: “Cadmium in colour-converting II-VI LEDs (< 10 ?g cd per mm2 of light-emitting area) for use in solid state illumination or display systems until 1 july 2014".
