LG Display will showcase its latest OLED TV at CES 2018. The company is going beyond the 4K TV into the 8K TV realm with a new 88″ OLED TV that the company will show off at CES, according to an Engadget article. The company is betting big on the high-end OLED TV market with TVs that can cost as much as a used car.
Korean firm LG has apparently overcome at least some of the size limiting production difficulties and constraints of OLED panel production. Will these capabilities lower the cost of OLED TVs of smaller sizes, or will the switch to 8K at least partially negate the improved production capabilities that the company has apparently achieved in translating to lower costs.
Also, it is not clear if the new TV will eventually be mass produced or will remain in the prototype stage or just limited release.
One thing is clear; the company expects the OLED TV market to take off, even if the rest of the industry isn’t as sure.
