IMS Research predicts that 2011 will be another bright year for the LED supply chain. IMS Research recently published its Quarterly GaN LED Supply and Demand Report.
IMS Research says that the market for blue/green or GaN LEDs grew some 67 percent in 2010 over the previous year to $8 billion. The company forecasts that this market will grow 38 percent in 2011 to reach $10.8 billion. The company says that this will be the result of a 49 percent increase in die shipments to 62 billion units.
Among LED applications, IMS Research says that TVs are expected to enjoy the fastest growth up 97% to $4.3B. In 2011 the company contends that LED TVs will proliferate, accounting for 51% of TV panel shipments. Monitors and general lighting are also projected to enjoy rapid growth, each up at least 57% vs. 2010, the company indicated.
