Taiwan-based LED producer Everlight Electronics Co., LTD. launched the NIR-C19M series with a wavelength of 810nm. According to the company, the NIR-C19M produces the clearest contrast effect for reading the pattern of the iris. The company says that with the new IR LED, the recognition process is precise and quick, and its package design offers excellent heat dissipation. Everlight says that the IR LED is, therefore, ideally suited for iris recognition in security surveillance systems (access control) and portable handsets.
Following the market demand for a way for people to access their devices without passwords or pins, the industry has developed biometric scanners that use the body to grant access. Such biometric scanners have been integrated into numerous devices and systems. Smart biometric identification enables devices to measure the users’ unique patterns in their voice, fingerprint, iris, and face to quickly avoid the problem of remembering traditional long passwords.
The use of infrared LEDs for non-contact optical identification offers the distinct advantages of compact size, strong security, and fast recognition. The NIR-C19M series measures just 3.5 x 3.5 x 2.3 mm, and it emits at a wavelength of 810nm.
Everlight employs a molding manufacturing process on the NIR-C19M series. Compared to the traditional glue dispense fabrication process, molding creates a smoother surface which enhances both the appearance and the reliability.
The system uses an advanced ISP image processor along with a CMOS sensor to receive the infrared reflection from the human eye to authenticate iris identification.
Everlight says its unique optical design with a small angle (FOV=25) and a radiant intensity of up to 2,700mW/Sr at less than 1000mA, achieves a clear high reflection rate. Also, the company says that its heat dissipation with a thermal resistance of 4.38℃/W is superior to any competing product in the market. Furthermore, the device has passed the IEC62471, safety regulation to prove that it causes no harm to human eyes and skin.
