July 7, 2008... Displaybank (CEO, Peter Kwon), a display market research company forecasted in Korea Display Conference, KDC2008 which places from July 2 to July 4 in KINTEX, Ilsan that LED LCD TV that is equipped with LED BLU instead of existing CCFL would reach 8% of the total market by 2011.
According to Allen Ji, a senior researcher of Displaybank, LED LCD TV penetration rate would rapidly increase from 0.1% in 2008 to 8.0% in 2011 that each manufacturers' LED BLU equipped ratio would vary (might increase more than forecast) depending on the market situation by next year. The reason for 2007's actual penetration rate being lower than anticipated from 2006 was explained as the late debut of handful TV manufacturers' LED LCD TV that caused delayed market formation.
But the rapid price decline of LCD TV and demand increase lead TV manufacturers to necessarily possess product differentiation strategy. In this situation, LED LCD TV is emerging as one of the differentiation strategy such that the future market forecast was told to be bright. TV products' eco-friendly/slim trend and the continued search for the next hot application followed by mobile phone from LED manufacturers are expected to lead the LED LCD TV market expansion. Also TV manufacturers' LED LCD TV introduction to the market is expected to be more active in 2008 and 2009.
LG has introduced recently the 47inch LED LCD TV into the market that was driven by Sony and Samsung, and other major TV manufacturers like Sharp, Phillips, Panasonic and Hitachi are expected to have LED product lineup by 2009. Moreover, manufacturers other than major TV brands have high probability of introducing LED LCD TV into the market.
